Yoon Sun Choi, Korean-Canadian improvising vocalist and pianist, Choi has been based in New York City since 2000. Her main musical projects are with her longtime collaborative duo with pianist Jacob Sacks, the YSC Quartet and her new quintet - Advocate as well as her solo voice/piano work. Choi has performed and collaborated with renown artists such as Jane Ira Bloom, Samir Chatterjee, Steve Coleman, Mark Dresser, Mark Elias, Gerry Hemmingway, Darius Jones, D.D. Jackson, Oliver Lake, Mat Maneri, Ben Monder, the Tri-Centric Orchestra, Sarah Weaver, Kenny Werner and Kenny Wheeler. She has performed in some of the finest concert houses and music venues including The Blue Note, Birdland, The Stone, Roulette, The River Theater, Roy Thompson Hall and Carnegie Hall.Choi received a BMus in classical piano and composition at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and a BMus in voice and jazz performance at the University of Toronto. She studied voice with Thomas Schilling and piano with Sofia Rosoff.
Mazz Swift is a violinist, singer and composer, weaving improvisation, classic African American musics, electronica, and mindfulness into their work. They are a 2019 Jerome Hill Fellow, and 2021 United States Artist Fellow. Works include commissions by the Los Angeles Philharmonic (2020), the Silkroad Ensemble (2021), and the Kronos Quartet (2022+2024).
Cat Toren is a Juno Award winning pianist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. Her critical acclaims include “The Best New Jazz on Bandcamp” and her style is described as “vibrant, earthy and spiritual” (UK Vibe). She is an associate composer at the Canadian Music Centre and a world-renowned improvisor having performed at venues such as the Guggenheim Museum, Carnegie Hall and The Jazz Gallery.
Noa Fort, Brooklyn based, Israeli born vocalist, pianist, composer, improviser, active in the Jazz and improvised music scene. Apart from releasing two critically acclaimed albums, she has collaborated and shared the stage with greats such as William Parker, Dave Torn, James Brandon Lewis, Francisco Mela, Mary Prescott. A recipient of the Brooklyn Arts Council grants, she created a free concert series throughout Brooklyn, including in a transitional home for homeless people and community gardens. Fort is also a licensed creative arts therapist and board certified music therapists.
