Yoon Sun Choi - voice, piano, electronics

A Korean-Canadian improvising vocalist and pianist, Choi has been based in New York City since 2000. Her main musical projects are with her longtime collaborative duo with pianist Jacob Sacks, the YSC Quartet and her new quintet - Advocate as well as her solo voice/piano work. Choi has performed and collaborated with renown artists such as Jane Ira Bloom, Samir Chatterjee, Steve Coleman, Mark Dresser, Mark Elias, Gerry Hemmingway, Darius Jones, D.D. Jackson, Oliver Lake, Mat Maneri, Ben Monder, the Tri-Centric Orchestra, Sarah Weaver, Kenny Werner and Kenny Wheeler. She has performed in some of the finest concert houses and music venues including The Blue Note, Birdland, The Stone, Roulette, The River Theater, Roy Thompson Hall and Carnegie Hall.Choi received a BMus in classical piano and composition at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and a BMus in voice and jazz performance at the University of Toronto. She studied voice with Thomas Schilling and piano with Sofia Rosoff.

Miranda Sielaff - viola

A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, violist Miranda Sielaff plays and tours internationally with several ensembles including The Knights and String Orchestra of New York City (SONYC). Highlights of the last few years include performances at Tanglewood, Ravinia and Carnegie Hall with The Knights, and at Carnegie Hall with Jacob Sacks and Friends. Miranda is featured on recordings with The Knights (Warner Classics), Ingrid Laubrock, Carlo Costa, Jacob Garchik, and SONYC. Miranda holds degrees from Rice University and The Juilliard School, where she studied with Karen Ritscher and Karen Tuttle.

Jeong Lim Yang - bass

Native South Korean bassist Jeong Lim Yang performed extensively in New York City since 2011 as a sideman with great figures in the scene such as Jason Palmer, Oscar Noriega, and Kenny Wollesen. In 2017, her debut album as a leader and a composer titled Déjà vu (fresh sound) won ‘the best debut album of the year. Yang released the experimental Brooklyn-based collective band “mute” in 2020 (fresh sound) and received international acclaim. Yang’s lyrical and melodic playing has been pursued and desired by many contemporary jazz and improvised musicians.
Yang brings her melancholy and earthy bass sound with the support of the great improvising giants of our time.

DoYeon Kim - gayageum

DoYeon Kim is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning virtuoso of the gayageum (a
traditional Korean string instrument). In addition to traditional Korean music, DoYeon specializes in free jazz, jazz, and improvisation. She regularly performs solo and group concerts worldwide in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. As a graduate of the New England Conservatory, and protégé of the world’s leading gayageum master Yi Jiyoung, DoYeon has performed alongside many distinguished improvisors, including Joe Morris, Agusti Fernandez, Tony Malaby and Tyshawn Sorey. Her 2017 album Gapi was nominated for a Korean Grammy award, and her latest album Macrocosm, with Joe Morris, received international critical acclaim, and Grammy.com recognized her as one of 7 Musicians Pushing Ancient Asian Instruments Into The Future (2021). DoYeon’s approach to
playing the gayageum, as well as improvised music, is a singularly unique experience.
