Based in Moscow, Russia, The Second Approach consists of a classically-trained composer and improvising pianist Andrei Razin, an improvising Gypsy singer Tatiana Komova and a jazz bass player Igor Ivanushkin. They are not straight-ahead jazz, but they are jazz, nevertheless, definitely unique. Over the course of their decade-long career as a group, the trio performed at jazz festivals in Norway, Germany, Poland, Finland, Israel, Bulgaria, and the Ukraine. This is their first visit to the United States. Their newest album, “The Light” was recorded in Moscow, guest-starring the great Roswell Rudd on the trombone.

Brooklyn based string instrumentalist/composer Jessica Pavone is best known for her work performing with Anthony Braxton in his current Septet and Twelve+1tet and for her duo project with guitarist, Mary Halvorson. As a composer, Pavone has received grants from the American Music Center and commissions to write chamber music from the MATA Foundation. She improvises in bands led by William Parker, Taylor Ho Bynum, and Matana Roberts. Since 2000, she has documented her music via her self-run label Peacock Recordings, which was recently awarded a grant from The Aaron Copland Fund for Music Recording Program. www.jessicapavone.com
